Philip Bilden has informed Sec. of Defense James Mattis that he is withdrawing his name from consideration to lead the U.S. Navy. Bilden was originally selected by President Trump.
In a letter released on Sunday night, Bilden stated that he fully supports the president’s agenda, but feared he would “not be able to satisfy the Office of Government Ethics requirements without undue disruption and materially adverse divestment of my family’s private financial interests.”
Mattis confirmed the news by issuing a statement in which he said Bilden removed himself from consideration out of privacy concerns and “challenges he faced in separating himself from his business interests.”
