Back in April, President Trump vowed to crack down on the vicious New York City gang MS-13, which has a reputation for terrorizing immigrants.
In the 30 days since his declaration, federal officials have arrested 45 persons suspected to be part of a gang, 39 of which have ties to MS-13.
The arrests were announced Wednesday, a month after the federal departments of US Customs and Immigration and Homeland Security paired up with NYPD, the Suffolk County Police Department, and the Nassau County Police Department to carry out “Operation Matador” designed to eradicate the gang.
MS-13 is no small time gang. Officials at the US Treasury referred to the group as a “transnational criminal organization” back in 2012, and tied the gang to crimes ranging from drug and human trafficking to murder.
The gang adheres to a rigorous code of conduct, whereby members are punished by getting beaten in increments of 13 seconds, and the green light to kill is always on for government officials.
