Tucker Carlson warns the president against amnesty

President Donald J. Trump received another warning about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) from a prominent conservative voice. Fox News’ host Tucker Carlson warned him against negotiating on the DACA program with Democrats.

On Thursday’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Carlson talked about reports that President Trump is considering a type of amnesty deal for DACA recipients. He was referencing a legislative deal that was discussed at the White House with Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that quickly legalizes them.

Revelations about the deal sparked outrage on Thursday as President Trump was said to be considering it while getting nothing in return.

Carson said the deal would protect the DACA recipients–of which there are nearly 800,000–while under current law, millions of their relatives would also be able to stay in the U.S. legally.

“It would be a massive amnesty,” Carlson said. “The biggest ever granted in American history.”

Carlson said that with too many pro-immigration Republicans in Congress, the Democrats control the immigration agenda. He further warned that caving on this issue could spell doom for the Republican Party.

“Nominally, Congress is controlled by Republicans, but on immigration, Democrats control the agenda. Why is that? Because Paul Ryan and many other corporate Republicans agree with them on every substantial point related to immigration,” Carlson said.

“President Trump goes along with this because he wants a legislative victory badly, and his party is incapable of giving him one. This arrangement cannot last forever. A party this out sync with its own voters will collapse and splinter,” he declared.

“Republicans don’t have to agree on every policy detail, obviously, but there ought to be some non-negotiable principles at the center of it all,” Carlson continued.

Carlson warned that in legalizing the DACA recipients, Republicans run the risk of losing future elections, as the newly legalized residents are likely to vote Democratic.

Breitbart News, run by former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, repeatedly slammed the president over this issue Thursday, even running a headline that referenced President Trump as “Amnesty Don.”

DML News CEO Dennis Michael Lynch also spoke out against the idea of amnesty for DACA recipients several times, starting Wednesday evening when he warned the president in his 39th “Letter to the President” of the same concern Carlson brought up Thursday night.

Lynch said it would be a bad deal to cave on DACA in exchange for “a few percentage points on my taxes,” because later generations will end up paying for it. He cites an amnesty program instituted by former President Ronald Reagan in his reasoning.

Lynch wrote, “In 1986, President Reagan thought he’d be giving amnesty to 1 million illegal aliens. It turned out to be nearly 4 million.”

Stating that there are potentially 20 million or more illegal aliens living in America now, Lynch continued, “If you (President Trump) and Congress grant any sort of amnesty, including the kind that comes with the Dream Act / DACA, you immediately add to the pool of liberal voters who will see to it that Republicans and conservatives never win another election again.”

Strapped with a lifetime of “liberal presidents who will raise taxes to support the sort of government programs promoted by Bernie Sanders,” Lynch surmises, later generations of conservatives will see no benefits to the compromises.

According to Lynch, “Doing a deal with the Devil never turns out well. When it comes to DACA, the Democrats are the Devil.”

Lynch doubled down on his comments Thursday night during his “Walk and Talk.” He introduced the video, saying there are four important points to consider before watching it:

  1. DACA, or any version of it, is amnesty
  2. Allowing illegal aliens to remain in the country is amnesty
  3. Not enforcing the law is what Obama did
  4. Although no deal has been cut, Trump is in favor of getting a deal on DACA. If you don’t believe this, then you don’t believe Trump. He has said it, has tweeted it several times.

Lynch went on to say that America is in a lot of trouble because President Trump is so concerned about a win that he seems to have forgotten that he ran for president as a candidate who was very tough on immigration.

“When your president, who ran on an immigration agenda, is now turning his back on what it is that the conservative point of view is about this sort of thing, we’re really in a lot of trouble,” Lynch said.

He warned that the president was elected because Trump took the hardest stance on immigration, and that is what Americans wanted to hear.

“That’s what I voted for,” Lynch said, and he expressed distress over having to devote any energy to convincing the president that amnesty isn’t a good deal for America.
