President Barack Obama sided with Turkey’s Islamist fundamentalist authoritarian president following an attempted military coup.

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (Ret.) ripped into Obama on Friday night and supported the members of the coup, “They’re against the Islamists, fundamentalists and extremists,” Peters said on Fox News Friday night. “They’re for democracy. They’re for a secular constitution.”

President Obama urged all sides in Turkey to side with democratically-elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Col Peters said Obama “should have just kept his mouth shut, because the people staging this coup are on our side.”

Peters said those staging the failed coup are the “good guys.” He said the coup is Turkey’s “last chance to avoid becoming an authoritarian Islamic regime, if not an outright Islamist dictatorship.” Peters warned about the coup failing and Turkey forever being radicalized (see video).

The coup was declared a failure on Saturday, and Erdogan promised harsh punishment for those who tried to remove him from power.  More than 300 people were arrested, and 200 people were killed during the coup. One man was run over by a tank as shown in the video below.
