Twitter erupts in outrage after MSNBC fires liberal contributor Joan Walsh

MSNBC has fired progressive feminist contributor Joan Walsh, and her departure has left many liberals and colleagues in an uproar about it.

The reason for Walsh’s ouster was not explained, and the decision was unexpected as Walsh was very popular with MSNBC viewers and anchors. In a statement that raised more questions than it answered, MSNBC’s said Saturday provided to TheWrap: “Every year we review our paid contributors list across the ideological spectrum. Unfortunately we couldn’t renew Joan, but she and her distinct perspective will still be invited on our shows. Joan Walsh has been a key voice on MSNBC for years and she’s absolutely still welcome.”

When word leaked of her exit on Friday night, Walsh responded in a tweet which read: “Wow. I’m overwhelmed. I didn’t expect this news to break tonight. I’ll have something to say in the morning.”

On Saturday morning, she wrote: “So it’s true: after 12 years on MSNBC, six on contract, I learned Friday night they are not renewing. I’ve given my heart and soul to the network, from the George W. Bush years through today. I’m proud of the work I did.”

Walsh is a progressive liberal, who often speaks against President Donald J. Trump. Her Twitter followers reacted, as did other media representatives, sparking #KeepJoanWalsh to start trending. Below is a sampling of the reactions to the news.
