A Queens, NY Imam and his assistant were both shot and killed in broad daylight Saturday afternoon, as they walked home from afternoon prayers at their local mosque.

A lone gunman, described as a tall, Hispanic man attacked the men from behind, shooting them both in the head, then fled the scene, just before 2 p.m.

The video shows a man approach two men who are walking. The shooter stops at the corner and shoots them at point blank range. He then runs in the opposite direction.

Both victims were dressed in full Muslim garb, having prayed at the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque in Ozone Park, one block away, only minutes earlier.    Killed was Imam Alala Uddin Akongi, a married father of three who came to Queens from Bangladesh less than two years ago.    Also killed was his assistant, Thara Uddin, 65, who died about four hours later.

Several dozen angry Muslim men arrived at the murder scene, yelling that it was a hate crime, and declaring that Donald Trump was to blame, reported the NY Daily News.

“That’s not what America is about,” said local resident Khairul Islam, 33. “We blame Donald Trump for this … Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”

“We are devastated,” said Kobir Chowdhury, president of a second neighborhood mosque. “We need to get to the bottom of this. We need to know if they did this just because of our religion.”

Police have stated at this time, they are not considering it a hate crime, and are searching for the killer.
