Two newly-graduated New York Police Department officers who were assigned to the same precinct have discovered that they are sisters.

The two officers had the same last name of Molina, their lockers were located close together, and their assignments often got mixed up in the precinct, causing them to laugh-off the confusion.

Eventually, the older of the two Molinas, Yadarquiris recalled her mother telling her a long time ago that she had a sister somewhere. As the two women grew closer, Yadarquiris became increasingly curious.

“One day she said, ‘It would be funny if we were family’ and we started laughing,” Jazmin Molina said in a story reported by Telemundo.

“I said, ‘May be because I don’t know my father’s side of the family,’” she added.

Through more conversation, the women discovered that they had the same father, Hector Molina, who has since passed away and did not get to see his daughters reunited.

The sisters believe that it was not a coincidence that their paths intersected in such a serendipitous way, but that it was God’s will.

“I feel at peace because we found each other,” said Yadarquiris.
