BYRON, GA — Early Monday morning, two police officers were shot and wounded while serving a search warrant, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent J.T. Ricketson in a released statement.
The incident took place in a Byron home off state Highway 42, where a multi-jurisdictional drug task force knocked on the door three times and announced themselves. However, the officers received no response. Upon then entering the house, an occupant began shooting at the officers. The task force returned with gunfire. The suspect was killed, according to police. He was described only as a 35-year-old white male. The suspect’s girlfriend and baby were also inside the home when the shooting happened. Neither of them was injured.
Two officers from the task force were hit with bullets and were taken to medical center Navicent Health in Macon. Both officers are expected to recover, authorities told Fox 5 Atlanta. Officials are still investigating the incident.
