Wednesday Donald Trump said he has a list of 10 people he is vetting as potential vice-presidential running mates, aside from the two who have bowed out of the running.
Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee was rumored to be on the list of potential VPs, and spent a good part of the day Tuesday with Mr. Trump. He also appeared with him at a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina Tuesday. However, Corker said on Wednesday that he has advised Trump he feels he is not a good fit for the position.
“I left there feeling very good about him as a person but also realized that at age 63, I know the things I’m good at doing and knowing what a candidate for vice president has to do,” he said. “It’s just not the right thing for me, and I don’t think it’s the right thing for them.”
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, who met with Trump on Monday, has also withdrawn her name from consideration, as she wants to focus on Iowa. She will have a speaking slot at the GOP convention, however, and said she wants to remain helpful to the GOP ticket and to Trump.
Ernst said she would “continue to share my insights with Donald about the need to strengthen our economy, keep our nation safe, and ensure America is always a strong, stabilizing force around the globe.”
Still a mystery are the remaining 10 names on the vetting list.
Trump said “three of four called me up, wanting to be considered.”
