One day after the Senate confirmed Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general, he was sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence during an Oval Office ceremony Thursday morning.
During President Trump’s opening remarks, he praised his newly appointed U.S. Attorney General for being “a man of integrity, a man of principle and a man of total, utter resolve,” and a man who “believes all people are equal in the eyes of the law…and in the eyes of God.”
Trump added that America needs a “determined attorney general” at a time when our nation faces increasing threats of “deadly terror” and “rising crime.”
He also said Sessions will be a “great protector” of the American people, before stating that he planned to sign three more executive actions after the ceremony, which are designed to “restore safety in America” and continue to deliver on his campaign promises.
Of the first order, Trump stated that it allows the Department of Justice (DoJ) and Homeland Security to “break the backs of criminal cartels” that have infiltrated the U.S. and “affecting the blood of our youth.”
The second order directs the DoJ to create a task force to reduce violent crime in America.

And the third, orders the DoJ to put a stop to “disgraceful” acts of violence against law enforcement officials.
Lastly, he sternly remarked that Sessions’ swearing-in marked the dawning of “a new era of justice” and an end of the days when drug cartels and gangs terrorized innocent people.
The former prosecutor and Alabama senator thanked Trump for “this great honor” and said he never expected it would happen in his life. He said, “The honor to lead it now is something I do not have words to express effectively.”
Session also identified areas that he plans to target in his new role, including crime problem that he said is a “dangerous permanent trend that places the safety of the American people at risk.” He also mentioned “an increased threat from terrorism” and promised to “respond effectively” and called for “a lawful system of immigration.”
