U.S. global ranking for immigrants released

The United States was ranked seventh in a recently published study on the living conditions and happiness of different countries’ immigrant populations, behind a top 3 of Sweden, Switzerland, and Canada.

The US News and World Report conducts the study based on a survey of more than 21,000 people across the globe on four attributes of different countries — “economically stable,” “good job market,” “income equality” and “is a place I would live” — and then scored and ranked each country.

The US houses the largest immigrant population in the world, but have fallen in this years rankings. US News cite the obvious reason for the US not making the top 5, such as Trump’s travel ban, and ambitious immigrations policies i.e. the border wall.

As Trump promised, the US has become a more difficult place for illegal immigrants. Immigration arrests rose by nearly 40 percent during the first four months of Trump’s presidency compared to the same time period from the year before, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
