An operation in Somalia against the extremist group, al-Shabab, left one member of the U.S. military dead on Thursday, according to U.S. officials.
While on a mission to offer assistance to Somali National Army ground troops, U.S. forces reportedly encountered the al-Qaida-linked extremists near the town of Bari, which is approximately 40 miles west of Mogadishu.
According to intelligence reports, Americans staged a helicopter raid on Thursday night on an al-Shabab hideout and came under small arms fire which resulted in one soldier’s death.
Those injured in the raid are receiving medical attention. This story is developing.
