U.K.’s government has posted new updated travel advice on their government website, warning LGBT tourists of the dangers if traveling to North Carolina and Mississippi.
North Carolina and Mississippi are now considered dangerous places to visit, since both states require people to use public restrooms that match the gender of their birth – NOT the gender they identify with.
The updated travel advice states: “The US is an extremely diverse society and attitudes towards LGBT people differ hugely across the country. LGBT travelers may be affected by legislation passed recently in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi. Before traveling please read our general travel advice for the LGBT community. You can find more detail on LGBT issues in the US on the website of the Human Rights Campaign.”
Human Rights Campaign Global director Ty Cobb called it “frightening and embarrassing” that the UK had to warn its citizens of the “risks” of traveling to two southern states.
