Ukraine president meets Trump, warns of Putin

Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko arrived in Washington, D.C. Tuesday for an important meeting with President Trump and Defense Secretary James Mattis.

Prior to the meeting, Newsweek reported that Poroshenko stated he is planning to “arm” President Trump with information “so he does not fall prey to any ‘injustice’ from Russian president Vladimir Putin.”

“It is very important that, as Ukrainian president, my meeting in the white House is sooner than the meeting with Putin,” Poroshenko reportedly said.

Although President Trump has not yet met with Putin, the two are expected to cross paths at the G20 summit in Germany next month, but the Ukrainian president stated that his own meeting with Trump before the summit is critical “so that everyone is armed with information and nobody leaves any chance for injustice.”

Relations have become tense between the United States and Russia recently, especially since the U.S. shot down a Syrian fighter jet Sunday, and Russia retaliated by flying within five feet of a U.S. Air Force plane on Monday.
