At Camp Lejeune, a woman’s body was found on a bike path at the North Carolina Marine base.

Officials at Camp Lejeune say it was around 6 a.m. when the body was discovered on the section of the bike path that approaches the main gate at the base.

While that section of the bike path is considered to be on base grounds, civilians have complete access to it.

Officials have yet to identify whether the woman is a Marine or a civilian.

A base spokesman says the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the woman’s death. Camp Lejeune has closed a nearby contractor vetting office and an entry gate, as well as the bike path.
