Former Secretary of Homeland Security and current president of the University of California, Janet Napolitano has vowed to provide lawyers and attorneys to illegal immigrant students who are detained by police.
On Friday, Napolitano stated the heavily endowed university will aid any students facing deportation under President Trump’s tightened enforcements on immigration policy.
“We will supply them with a lawyer,” Napolitano said at a forum sponsored by the Migration Policy Institute.
Napolitano believes illegal immigrants with lawyers do much better in their deportation cases than those without council.
However, the university’s courtesy to help students does not include their family members.
California has always been a pro-illegal immigrant assistance state, considering that it offers in-state tuition for illegal immigrants who finish the state’s high school level education and complimentary loan programs to those of illegal status.
Napolitano said the “uncertainty” over the future of the DACA program for the illegal alien dreamers ” is breeding a lot of stress in our campus community.”
