Sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Roy Moore continue to mount, as a 7th woman has spoken to Alabama news outlet AL.com, alleging that Moore attempted to woo her when she was 17 years old.
Kelly Harrison Thorp told AL.com of an incident that occurred in 1982, when she was a 17-year-old high school senior.
Thorp said she was employed as a hostess at the Red Lobster restaurant in Gadsden, when Moore, then in his 30s, came into the restaurant one day and asked her if she’d go out with him sometime.
“He was a public figure in this small town,” she said of Moore, who at the time was in his early 30s and the deputy district attorney for Etowah County. Later that year he would mount an unsuccessful campaign for circuit court judge.
Thorp said Moore asked her if she’d go out with him sometime.
“I just kind of said, ‘Do you know how old I am?'” she recalled.
“And he said, ‘Yeah. I go out with girls your age all the time.'”
Thorp said she turned him down and told him she had a boyfriend. She said he then walked away.
Thorp told AL.com that she knows Leigh Corfman, one of Moore’s accusers, and that she believes her story.
No claims of physical contact or abuse were included in the report from Thorp. She said she told a family member later, but never shared the story publicly, and moved away from the area the next year. She has just recently moved back to her hometown.
Thorp said because Moore “had power in town and in the state,” women have not spoken publicly before, as they didn’t think they would be believed.
“Everybody knew it wouldn’t matter, that he would get elected anyway because his supporters are never going to believe anything bad about him,” she stated.
