AGUA CALIENTE, Guatemala (AP) — The latest caravan of Honduran migrants hoping to reach the U.S. has crossed peacefully into Guatemala, under the watchful eyes of about 200 Guatemalan police and soldiers.

About 500 people, including dozens of children, lined up to show their documents to a first line of unarmed security personnel at the Agua Caliente border crossing Tuesday night. Riot police formed a second line to contain any possible disturbance.

The article goes on to state the following:

Honduran media reported that the country’s authorities had reinforced the border with Guatemala to make sure everyone had proper documents. Children must carry passports and written parental authorization to leave the country, and parents could face up to three years in prison if found to be taking a child without the right documents, Security Minister Julian Pacheco was quoted as saying.

Journalist Alberto Pradilla wrote, “So, to begin with, the Honduran and Guatemalan police have released gas. On the Honduran side there are people who want to cross and a barrier until 6. In the Guatemalan tremendous line to register those who managed to cross in the afternoon. There are groups that return to Honduras.”

Translation of the following tweet: “Tense atmosphere is registered in the Aguacaliente border. A fence of armed police on one side, the other hundreds of people intend to cross to Guatemala. ”

Pradilla tweeted a report on one migrant in the caravan, who was also in the October caravan, and is trying it again. “There are many like him,” Pradilla reported.
