A gunman believed to be a U.S. sailor shot three civilian Defense Department employees Wednesday afternoon at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii before fatally shooting himself, a military official said.

The shooting began around 2:30 p.m. at Dry Dock 2 in the shipyard at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Navy Region Hawaii according to spokeswoman Lydia Robertson.
Witnesses reported hearing the “pops” of gunfire and the base was forced to lockdown.
One witness told NBC’s Honolulu affiliate KHNL that they “looked out the window to see a person he thought was a shooter point a gun at his head and fire,” NBC reports.
Two of the victims are confirmed to have been hospitalized, one at The Queen’s Medical Center and the other at Pali Momi Medical Center.
No further details about the injuries or conditions of the patients have been released.
