U.S. ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Saturday that President Trump does believe the climate is changing
“President Trump believes the climate is changing and he believes pollutants are part of the equation,” said Haley. Her answer may come as a surprise to some people considering the recent policy decisions President Trump has made regarding the Paris accord.
Haley blamed President Trump’s move to pull out of the Paris climate accord on “onerous” regulations agreed to by Barack Obama. Haley says the U.S. has no upside in complying with current agreement. “The regulations from the Paris agreement were disadvantaging our companies,” she said. “I knew that as a governor. The jobs were not attainable as long as we lived under those regulations. It was not possible to meet the goals had we attempted to.”
Haley continued to defend Trump’s belief in climate change while deflecting questions from Tapper regarding tweets from the president that suggested he thought climate change was a Chinese hoax.
