Vice President Pence speaks with Otto Warmbier’s parents

As Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is on the way back to the United States with three freed Americans who North Korea had been holding hostage, Vice President Pence posted a compassionate message on Twitter Wednesday, remembering Otto Warmbier, the student who was taken prisoner by North Korea last year.

Warmbier was tortured by North Korea, and died within days of his return back to the United States. His parents have filed suit against North Korea for the torture and death of their son.

Pence thanked USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue for his prayer in Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, on behalf of Otto and his family.

The Vice President tweeted, “Spoke with Otto Warmbier’s parents today while 3 Americans are on their way home from North Korea. Otto is heavy on the hearts of everyone here. Thank you @SecretarySonny for leading the entire @Cabinet in prayer for Otto and his family.”
