Police officers in Pelham, New Hampshire were able to deescalate a potential deadly situation on Wednesday afternoon and take a knife-wielding intoxicated male into custody with no injuries suffered or even the need to use a non-lethal device such as a taser.
The location was close to a high school and students were actively being dismissed at the same time.
Police were dispatched to the area following a report of “an intoxicated man threatening his family with a knife.” The first officer on the scene arrived and observed a shirtless suspect holding a knife in his right hand and standing in the road. Backup officers arrived shortly thereafter.
As the officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the knife, the man kept yelling, “Shoot me! I’m begging you to shoot me!”
Police cruiser webcam caught the entire incident on video and clearly shows the four officers involved taking every precaution to maintain a zone of safety and take the man, later arrested and identified as 34-year-old Christopher Lanzillo, into custody quickly after he finally complied with their demands to drop the knife.
WARNING: Strong language use by suspect.
