LENOIR, N.C. (AP) – A sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina is out of surgery after being shot and wounded during a traffic stop.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near Lenoir.

The sheriff’s office said Monday the deputy was in stable condition following surgery. He had been shot just below his bullet-proof vest.
