A touching video of a Navy officer surprising his daughter at her fifth-grade graduation ceremony has hit the internet.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Kavaurio Harris spent almost a full year separated from his family while stationed in Japan. That all changed on Tuesday, when he traveled home to Covington, Georgia and showed up on stage during his daughter’s graduation at South Salem Elementary.
“I felt very anxious and excited all in one as I walked on the stage,” Harris recalls. “She had no idea I was coming home.”
His daughter, Kavaurianna, said it was “the best surprise she could ever have.”
Harris’s mother set up the surprise. He says he was in town for a few days prior to the graduation, which was difficult since Kavaurianna is usually the first person Harris sees when he comes into town.
Harris has been in Sasebo, Japan since July, 2016 and will be stationed there until 2019. He will only be home for a few weeks before returning.
