44-year-old Marc LaQuon Payne drove his vehicle at high speeds straight into three standing cops in a parking garage outside a QuikTrip. The garage video camera shows Payne striking the officers down near their patrol car in Phoenix, Arizona.
Two of the officers were critically injured. The other one was relatively unscathed with minor injuries. Payne will be booked on three charges of attempted first-degree murder. One of the officers, 33, was on his first day of duty when the vehicle rammed into him. He suffered a head injury, while a police sergeant, 41, was injured with a broken leg. A third officer, 36, managed to evade the speeding car, but was injured during an extended struggle with Payne in an altercation of his arrest.
“I’m very proud of the men and women of the Phoenix Police Department, and I’m outraged by this incident,” Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner said. “Our Phoenix police officers were targeted.”
