Secretary of State Mike Pompeo unveiled a bronze statue of former President Ronald Reagan on Friday in Berlin, where Reagan called on the Soviet Union to “tear down” the Berlin Wall.
Pompeo unveiled the 7-foot statue on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, hailing it as a “monumental moment.”
The article goes on to state the following:
“President Reagan was an indispensable leader of the…American mission to defend unalienable rights,” Pompeo said. “Because of his courageous leadership and his commitment to that freedom, he courageously denounced the greatest threat to them of this day to that freedom – the Soviet Empire, the evil empire. He knew that instead of protecting a citizen’s right, they brutalized citizens or executed them.”
The same artist who designed Reagan’s statue for the U.S. Capitol rotunda also created the new statue for Berlin, the report states.

Rep. Bryan Steil tweeted a photo of another Reagan statue in the U.S. Capitol. He wrote, “This statue of President Ronald Reagan sits in the U.S. Capitol. If you look closely, you can see pieces of the Berlin Wall. In a speech he told the Communist Russian Leader, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Now, President Reagan symbolically stands on top of that wall.”

Ronald Reagan is already an honorary citizen of Berlin, so city authorities have always deemed a statue inappropriate. Nonetheless, a bronze replica of the former president was just inaugurated at the US Embassy.#Mauerfall30 pic.twitter.com/6upEW3gJib
