Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said Monday that Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin’s insulting remarks toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were “irresponsible and ignorant.”

Durbin (D) called ICE a “group of incompetents” during a Chicago rally for the reunification of children and their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, one of hundreds held across the country on Saturday.

“At this point they’re focused more on toddlers than terrorists,” Durbin added.

The article goes on to state the following:

Jenkins has been combating the violent MS-13 gang in Frederick County, Maryland and has said that his county works closely with ICE to deport criminals.

Durbin’s remarks added to Democrats’ growing anti-Trump rhetoric, which also include Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) calling on people to harass members of the president’s staff.

“That’s a very irresponsible and ignorant statement on [Durbin’s] part,” Jenkins said on “Fox & Friends.”

Jenkins said that Durbin “clearly” does not understand what role ICE plays in combating gang violence, and that Durbin has “demeaned and insulted” its officers.
