A reporter for Campus Reform went undercover at American University in Washington, D.C. to measure support for banning the hiring of any professor who voted for President Trump in the 2016 election.

Cabot Phillips posed as a student with the fictitious group “American Students for Diversity,” and asked other students to sign a petition supporting his proposed ban.

Phillips reported, “Throughout the day it became clear that the overwhelming majority of students on campus had no interest in hearing from any professor holding political beliefs different from their own.”

Numerous students eagerly signed Phillips’ petition, with one claiming that having professors who voted for Trump would “really inhibit people to go and take their classes.”

One faculty member stopped, signed the petition, and encouraged Phillips in his efforts.

As one student signed the petition she said, “[America] is not really a democracy so we can’t really play by the normal rules anymore.”

During an entire afternoon of filming, more than 20 students agreed to sign the petition, while only one politely declined.
