President Trump said Saturday the FBI has “free reign” to conduct its investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh but that he hopes the investigation uncovers who leaked the letter his accuser Christine Blasey Ford sent lawmakers.

Trump directed the FBI to re-open its background investigation of Kavanaugh on Friday, the day after Kavanaugh and Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford has accused Kavanaugh of groping her and trying to take off her clothes without her consent while the two were at in high school in 1982. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

The article goes on to state the following:

“They have free reign, they can do whatever they have to do, whatever it is that they do. They’ll be doing things we have never even thought of,” Trump told reporters Saturday. “And hopefully at the conclusion everything will be fine.”

President Trump also expressed optimism over the FBI investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh, saying it could actually be “a blessing in disguise,” because “having the FBI go out and do a thorough investigation will be a good thing.”

One reporter asked the president if he had a “back-up plan” if Kavanaugh wasn’t confirmed. “I don’t need a back-up plan, everything’s going to be fine,” he responded.
