Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are finally opening up about the August Alsina affair rumors that have dominated headlines in recent weeks. In a new episode of Red Table Talk, the Smiths confirmed that Jada did, in fact, have an affair with Alsina about four and a half years ago. Jada explained that she and Will were “separated amicably” at the time of her “entanglement with August,” but after a few months, the couple realized that they wanted to save their marriage and reunited. “I just wanted to feel good,” Jada said of the affair. “It had been so long since I felt good.”
In late June, singer August Alsina claimed that he had a sanctioned affair with Jada around 2016-2017. At the time, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s representatives denied Alsina’s claim, but last week, they finally reversed course and announced that they would be addressing the scandal head-on in a new Red Table Talk episode, which debuted on Facebook Watch this afternoon.
The article goes on to state the following:
The Smiths spoke frankly about the August Alsina affair rumor, as they believe that opening up to the world will be “healing” for their family. “About four and a half, four years ago, I started a friendship with August. We actually became really, really good friends,” said Jada. She explained that Alsina was “really sick” when they first met, so she thought that they may be able to help him recover.
Jada said she and Will were “going through a very difficult time … We broke up.”
“Yeah, I was done with your ass. I was done with you,” Will said.
At the time, the couple said, the split was “indefinite.”
“As time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August,” Jada said, later clarifying that she and Alsina were in a legitimate “relationship.” Jada’s admission confirmed a relationship Alsina had described previously in an interview while speaking to The Breakfast Club co-host Angela Yee in early July.
At the time, representatives for Jada called Alsina’s claims “absolutely not true” while a representative for Will told The Sun that the allegations are “wrong.” The couple said they never specifically told any representative to make a statement, and that they “came to the table” to explain what happened.
They said although the situation was private, they wanted to be transparent and “clear the air” because a “very personal journey” became public.
“I actually don’t look at it as a transgression at all,” Jada said. “Through that particular journey, I learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturity, emotional insecurity, and I was really able to do some really deep healing.”
Alsina claimed in the interview with Yee that Will gave him “his blessing” to see Jada. During the Red Table Talk episode, Jada explained the claim.
“What August was probably trying to communicate — I could actually see how he would perceive it as permission because we were separated amicably,” said Jada. “He also wanted to make it clear that he’s not a homewrecker, which he’s not.”
According to Jada and Will, they found it “was not possible” to stay separated and she ended the relationship with Alsina.
