Second Daughter Charlotte Pence had a classy response to an intended jab at her father.
Charlotte released a children’s book featuring the Pence family’s pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo, intending to use part of the proceeds from sales for charity. “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver hatched a plan to derail the success of the book by creating one of his own. To add insult to injury, Oliver’s book is a direct attack on Vice President Mike Pence.
Charlotte’s children’s book is titled “Marlon Bundo’s Day in the Life of the Vice President.” The charming educational story, illustrated by Second Lady Karen Pence, follows the Vice President around, but from Marlon Bundo’s perspective.
A portion of the proceeds will be given to a charity dedicated to stopping sex trafficking, according to the Daily Wire.
Oliver’s book is a partisan parody about two gay bunnies, and the talk show host meant for it to be a jab at Pence, who holds conservative Christian values.
In describing the book on his show, Oliver said, “This isn’t some adult book telling Mike Pence to go f**k himself, although in buying it that’s exactly what you would be doing.”
Oliver’s book follows a gay rabbit that lives at the White House and marries another male bunny. An antagonist in the book is a stink bug that resembles Pence. Proceeds from its sales will be shared with two charities: one combats suicide in the LGBTQ community and the other benefits AIDS patients.
Charlotte, 24, spoke to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo about Oliver’s jabs (see video below), and handled the entire situation with class in saying it was good to have two books collecting money for charity.
“I think imitation is the most sincere form of flattery in a way,” said Charlotte. “But in all seriousness, his book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind. We have two books that are giving to charities that are both about bunnies, so I’m all for it, really.”
Charlotte also addressed the Last Week Tonight book on Twitter (see below), posting a picture of Marlon Bundo in a bowtie similar to the one the bunny wears in Oliver’s book. The post read: Not gonna lie, I do look pretty fly in a bow tie. The only thing better than one bunny book for charity is…TWO bunny books for charity.
