A new report filed on Friday with the Federal Election Commission revealed that President Trump’s re-election campaign and joint party committees sent nearly $500,000 to Trump-owned hotels, golf clubs, and restaurants in the first quarter of the year.

According to the report, “Trump’s campaign directed more than 6% of the $6.3 million it spent in the first three months of 2017 to the president’s companies, including $274,013 in rent to Trump Tower, $58,685 for lodging to the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., and $13,828 for facility rental and catering to the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, FEC documents also showed that during the election, more than $14 million went from Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee to his family-owned companies and also reimbursed his children for travel-related expenses.

Trump has been criticized since he took office for not properly distancing himself from his companies, despite the fact that the management of said companies has been turned over to his two sons, Eric and Donald Jr.

Trump still owns the companies, and a trust permits him to draw money from his businesses as trustees Donald Trump Jr. and longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg see fit. Additionally, he doesn’t have to disclose such withdrawals publicly.

In response to the article and FEC documents, DML said, “At a time when the Democrats are looking for any sort of story line they can find to help tarnish the president’s profile, I’d like to see the Trump businesses be completely removed from this sort of activity regardless of it being within legal boundaries.  Unfortunately, perception is often mistaken for reality, and the mainstream media will help the Democrats sell a negative perception.  They’ll leave people questioning whether there has been an abuse of funds and dishonest practices.  This won’t help the president or Republican candidates when the midterms arrive.  There are other hotels to rent and visit.  I suggest using them instead.”
