Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) says she’s seen a boost in support from younger voters because of her “resistance to Trump,” and is also claiming she’s willing to put her “career on the line” to speak out against the president.
The comments were made at a gala hosted by the political action committee (PAC) EMILY’s List that works to elect female Democrats who support abortion rights.
“We must take our anger, our pain, our collective strength to right this wrong, to resist this tyranny and to save our democracy from a man whose immoral character and distorted thinking are an imminent threat to our nation,” Waters told the audience.
Waters claimed that, although she has widespread support in her California district and has seen a recent surge in her Twitter followers (rising to above 300,000 from 46,000), “there are many who do not like what I’m doing.”
“But, I’ve decided that no matter those who do dislike what I’m doing, no matter those who disagree with me, I feel absolutely certain that this country deserves better than Donald Trump.”
Waters continued to lash out at the president, saying he is a “disgusting, poor excuse of a man” and calling for his impeachment.
