Now that Barron is out of school for the summer, the first family has finally moved into the White House just in time for the President’s 71st birthday on Wednesday.
Melania and Barron, who have been living in New York City so that the 11-year-old could continue to attend his regular school, became full-time Washington D.C. residents after stepping off of Marine One and walking across the South Lawn to their new home in the White House.
The family first touched down at Andrews Air Force base in Maryland on Sunday before transferring over to Marine One, which took them home.
Melania’s parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, who have been living with their daughter and grandson in the Trump Tower penthouse, also arrived at the family’s new digs. Originally from Slovenia, the couple resides in the U.S., but they visit their homeland every year. They don’t plan to relocate to Washington, but they will be frequent visitors to the White House as they help raise Barron.
The Knavs spend most of their weekends with the Trump family at Mar-a-Lago, or at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
On Sunday evening, the first lady posted a photo of her view from the White House, tweeting, “Looking forward to the memories we’ll make in our new home! #Movingday.”

After Melania’s communications director, Stephanie Grisham tweeted out, “It’s official! @FLOTUS & Barron have made the move to DC! #WelcomeHome” scores of Twitter users followed suit, welcoming the First Lady and her son.

Melania and Barron’s move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue marks the first time a boy will be living at the White House since 1963, when John F Kennedy Jr. was three years old.
According to Katherine Jellison, a history professor at Ohio University who specializes in first lady studies, “The move helps to give the impression that the president is currently in a stable, solid marriage and that his home life is under control.”
Knowing that Trump likes to celebrate his birthday in a big way, Melania is already planning something special, beginning with soliciting the help of loyal supporters to send hundreds of thousands of birthday cards to the White House.
To that end, she sent out an email to supporters on Thursday, stating, “I need your help to make it a birthday my husband will never forget. You have certainly proven yourself to be a loyal friend of my husband through your support of his positive vision to Make America Great Again and your unwavering commitment to the Republican Party.”
Whatever else she has planned is being kept secret.
