President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania have the White House ready for Halloween and trick-or-treaters.
Covered in spider webs, fog, large spiders, bats and pumpkins (see pictures below), the White House has been transformed by officials into a Halloween house.
On Saturday, Melania Trump shared a photo of the decorations on social media, sending out a tweet and an Instagram post captioned: “The People’s House @WhiteHouse is ready to celebrate #Halloween2017.”
The decorations were completed ahead of a Monday event on the South Lawn, which will welcome trick-or-treaters from 20 schools and military families, who will trick-or treat at the White House the night before Halloween.
“During this event, trick-or-treaters will enjoy seeing the South Portico decorated in spider webs, creating a festive look and feel,” the White House said in a release.
The release says that President Trump and Melania will hand out cookies and other candy, including presidential M&Ms.
The president has already welcomed one batch of costumed kids, when the press corps’ children visited the oval office on Friday (see video below)
“I cannot believe the media produced such beautiful children,” the president joked. “How the media did this, I don’t know.”
He teased the parents in the room, asking the kids, “So, how does the press treat you? I bet you get treated by the press better than anybody in the world. Right? Huh? I think so.”
His comments earned a few chuckles from the adults.
As the children circled the desk, the president encouraged them to get in place for a photo, and asked them: “Do you know who they are? They’re the friendly media, that’s the press.”
One child looked to be upset, and President Trump expressed concern. “Are you crying? Come here, sweetheart,” he said. Someone mentioned that the young girl was Japanese, to which the president responded, “She’s Japanese? Beautiful, she’s Japanese — I’m going to be in Japan in two weeks.”
Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted out a photo taken at the event, writing: “Halloween at the White House. Press kids friendlier than their parents ;-).”
