White House Hosts All-Day Event on Gender Stereotypes of Toys

Forget ISIS, or illegal immigration, our veterans, national debt or national security – the Obama administration is focused on toys??

The Obama administration hosted an all-day conference at the White House Wednesday, April 6, with the goal of “Breaking Down Gender Stereotypes in Media and Toys so that Our Children Can Explore, Learn, and Dream Without Limits”.

Announcement on the White House website:

“Today at the White House, the White House Council on Women and Girls – in partnership with the Department of Education and the Media, Diversity, & Social Change Initiative at the University of Southern California – is hosting a conference where we will bring together executives from America’s leading toy, media, and retail companies; parents; advocates; academics; and leaders of youth organizations to talk about breaking down gender stereotypes in children’s media and toys.”

Valerie Jarrett took a quick break from the day-long conference to do an interview with Katie Couric.   Jarrett stated, “It’s going take every family, family by family; it’s going to take businesses that realize it is within their self-interest to break down these stereotypes. We have to highlight this issue that hasn’t been done historically.”

Not everyone was impressed, by the looks of the social media responses:
