White House releases statement on Manhattan terror attack

The White House released a complete statement from President Trump Tuesday evening, in response to the vehicular terror attack in Manhattan Tuesday afternoon.

The statement reads:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of today’s terrorist attack in New York City and their families. My Administration will provide its full support to the New York City Police Department, including through a joint investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We offer our thanks to the first responders who stopped the suspect and rendered immediate aid to the victims of this cowardly attack. These brave men and women embody the true American spirit of resilience and courage. I will continue to follow the developments closely.”

The attacker, who killed 8 people and wounded at least eleven more, has been identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old man from Tampa, Florida, who came to the United States on a green card in 2010 from Uzbekistan. He has reportedly worked as an Uber driver.

Saipov rented a Home Depot truck and deliberately drove onto a bike path in downtown Manhattan, mowing down everyone in his path.
