President Trump steered clear of health care and Russia in this week’s address to the American people, and instead chose to celebrate America’s heroes.

He recounted going aboard the SS Gerald R. Ford, an aircraft carrier he called “the newest and most advanced in the history of our world,” and saluting soldiers who have made it their livelihood to defend the citizens of the United States. Trump recalled his rally in Youngstown, Ohio, this week, where he honored a Pearl Harbor survivor with a “very special award.”

The president did not forget law enforcement heroes, either, honoring the police officers who defended congressional GOPers from the shooter at that fateful Virginia baseball practice with the highly prestigious Medal of Valor. Furthermore, he held back no praise for the great work done by NYPD officials working in tandem with the Department of Justice to quell international crime syndicate, MS-13.

“All American heroes, whether they patrol the oceans, protect our capital, safeguard our streets, or serve in many other ways, share a common bond. They believe in America, they love our citizens, and they will stop at nothing to defend our safety and our freedom,” Trump declared.

He also said duty shown by such heroism has seen tangible results.

“Look at all the jobs that are coming in,” Trump said. “Look at what’s happening with the stock market. Look at so many things where we are just getting bigger, better, and stronger.”

“The source of America’s strength is found in the spirit of our people. The heroes among us represent that American spirit, courage, love, and sacrifice,” said Trump.
