As throngs of protesters took over the streets in Charlotte, North Carolina Wednesday night, one motorist had had enough of the blocked road and finally stuck his arm out the window – with a gun in his hand.

Writer Heather Head took a video of the incident and posted it on social media, ironically calling it a “peaceful protest” and saying she was surprised the man “was allowed to drive away alive.”

Her statement: “White dude drives into crowd of peaceful protesters, draws gun, allowed to drive away alive. With my own eyes. #CharlotteProtest”.    She has since deleted the post.

The group was chanting, “No justice, no peace!” until they saw the man’s gun, then they began yelling, “He’s got a gun!” and swearing.    The man honked his horn, trying to get them to move out of the street so he could pass.  At one point he got out of the car and faced the crowd. Finally the mob let him drive on through.

The protest was so “peaceful” that a shooting had occurred earlier, leaving one of the protesters on life support.   Store windows were broken, businesses were looted, and one reporter was knocked out and almost thrown in a fire.

Heather Head claims that the man showing his gun proves racism still exists.

”I’m so confused by the people saying he wasn’t white. I mean, I didn’t take a DNA sample or anything but I saw a lot more of him than a close-up of his arm, and he looked pretty white bread to me. His pals in the car too,” Head added.  “I wish no ill on anyone. I just want the truth out. I want people to recognize that racism exists, it’s real, and it has real consequences,” she stated.

The Daily Mail points out that while it is legal to openly carry a gun in North Carolina, it is illegal to do so at a protest.   According to state law, “You may not carry a weapon at a parade, funeral procession, picket line, or other demonstration, except for guns carried on a rack in a pickup truck.  You may not carry a weapon during civil disorder, riot, or other disturbance involving three or more people.”

The man wasn’t a part of the protest, but he was trying to drive through the city streets that the protesters were blocking.
