Wife of NFL coach publicly expresses regret over voting for Trump

On Monday, Linda Del Rio, the wife of Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio, tweeted her criticism of President Trump’s comments toward Marshawn Lynch because he sat for the U.S. national anthem but was on his feet for Mexico’s anthem before Sunday’s game.

“President Trump I voted for you, which I now regret. Football is a powerful platform — here’s the charitable work we did in Mexico City #NFLproud,” Del Rio tweeted, before subsequently deactivating her account Tuesday morning.

Lynch has protested all season, having not stood once for the anthem since coming out of retirement. However, Trump launched a targeted criticism of the NFL star via Twitter Monday, writing that Lynch should be suspended “for the remainder of the season” if he sits out during the national anthem again.

Del Rio, before turning off her account, responded directly to Trump’s tweet, writing, “Take more time being president of the United States and less time trying to shame.”

The Raiders’ running back is no fan of Trump, either. Earlier in the season, Lynch wore a shirt that read, “Everybody vs. Trump.”

Delisa Lynch, his mother, tweeted in support of her son, writing, “[W]hat NFL team do Trump own? oh yeah they wouldn’t let him have one, !! LMAO.”
