MICHIGAN — At 17, Lestina Marie Smith was accused of raping a then-19-year-old man. The Michigan woman allegedly threatened him with a steak knife before engaging in intercourse, part of the attack videotaped by Smith.

Smith may, however, dodge prison if a plea deal can be reached in the case.

The male victim testified he had dated Smith for approximately two months in 2016, MLive reported. They broke up due to physical abuse by Smith. Months after, she called and asked him to meet. The ex-boyfriend reportedly had called Smith a “whore” on Facebook several days prior; however, he was not sure why she wanted to meet.

According to reports, the meeting took place on Jan. 11, 2017, in Saginaw Township, during which Smith allegedly raped her ex-boyfriend at knifepoint, engaging in oral and vaginal sex.

She was arraigned on Jan. 17, on two felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Each charge carries a maximum punishment of life in prison.

Now 18, Smith pleaded no contest last week to second-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to court records. Due to the plea, prosecutors agreed to drop the most serious charges when she’s sentenced on Oct. 5, leaving Smith to face up to 15 years in prison, or the possibility of probation and jail time served, court records show.

“I’m not going to believe that my daughter raped him,” Smith’s mother, Tanesha Jackson, told MLive. “I’m not going to believe it.”

Jackson says her daughter is not a violent person, and that she believes the alleged victim is lying.

“I’ve been raped. Like I said, I know what a rape victim goes through and a rape victim isn’t going to get back on Facebook … or say [sic] I miss this person, I love this person, I don’t know what to do,” Jackson said in January, according to WNEM. “You know if somebody really actually hurt you and raped you because it took me a long time to ever forgive mine.”

She continued: “She’s smaller than me and this young man is large. So, I can’t understand how you’re going to have somebody at knifepoint rape you.”

Jackson admitted her daughter had a knife for protection.

“I understand she still has to be responsible for the knife. I’ve never denied that. You know, she told the truth about that. But to say she raped you and let my child go away from me for life,” Jackson said at the time. “If he has any type of God or his mother has God in their hearts, I just pray that they change it and think about what they’re doing because you’re not just ruining one person’s life, you’re going to ruin a lot of people’s lives.”
