UTAH — People walking in the parking lot outside a Walmart store noticed a parked car “shaking.” After seeing there were no people inside the car, they heard voices inside the trunk. It was soon discovered that the shaking was coming from two children locked inside. Allegedly, a mother had locked her young kids in the trunk while she went shopping.
Riverdale police on Thursday said that the children, ages 2 and 5, were locked inside the trunk by their mom until the five year old figured out how to pull the emergency latch and escape.
When Tori Lee Castillo returned to the car, she was promptly arrested and charged with suspected child abuse.
Castillo remains in jail, said Police Lt. Casey Warren, adding that the children were referred to child welfare and are currently in the custody of a responsible party.
