In Greenville, South Carolina, a woman and her mother have been taken into custody after an employee taking out the trash at a Mexican restaurant discovered a newborn baby when it fell out of a hole in the bag.

On July 12, Estela Ruiz-Gomez, 19, gave birth inside the restaurant’s bathroom; her mother, Lorenza Gomez Rodriguez, 41, assisted in the birth.

Reportedly, the employee who was taking out the trash was shocked as to how heavy the bag was and began dragging it across the parking lot. The bag then tore open and the baby fell out.

The infant was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was unable to be saved. Both women have been charged with homicide by child abuse in the incident.
