A young Florida woman was on her way home from celebrating her 21st birthday when she accidentally crashed her truck into a river and died early Tuesday morning.
A police report says Carly Bowie failed to negotiate a curve, which subsequently sent her truck into a guard rail three times before it smashed through the bridge wall and plunging into the Tomoka River.
Investigators believe the pickup was doing 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The truck was found in 10 feet of water Tuesday morning, and her body was found at 3:19pm Wednesday, the Daytona Beach News Journal reported.
“They were all at a friend’s house,” her mother Donna Bowie said in a brief phone interview. “It was a bunch of friends she had not seen since high school.”
Donna said that her daughter called around 5:15am to inform them that she was about 10 minutes away from her home.
Mrs. Bowie told reporters: “She was a fantastic young woman. This is a tragedy.”
It is currently unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, but an autopsy is likely to be done.
