In New Hampshire, a woman tried to kidnap a man’s child right after the father asked if she needed a ride.

Saturday morning in Rochester, the 52-year-old father was driving with his young daughter when he saw Joanne Shaw, 25, of Gonic, walking along Washington Street and asked her if she needed a lift.

Even though Shaw did not know the man, she accepted the offer and sat in the front passenger seat. Within seconds, she turned around and started to unbuckle the 21-month-old in the backseat. She announced she was going to take the baby and continued to remove the child from its car seat.

The woman then reached for the man’s car key, breaking it in the ignition and causing chaos as the man tried to stop her while simultaneously pulling the car safely to the side of the road.

After the car came to a halt, Shaw proceeded to take the 21-month-old and run off with her down the road.

The man chased after Shaw and managed to catch her. Despite Shaw punching him twice, the man was able to retrieve his young daughter, who was unharmed.

Shaw was arrested and booked on charges that include resisting arrest, kidnapping, simple assault and criminal mischief.

Shaw remained detained on $5,000 bail Monday at the Strafford County House of Corrections. She is expected to be arraigned later today.
