An Egyptian woman who is reported to be the “fattest woman in the world” recently lost 715 lbs. after undergoing weight loss surgery in an Indian hospital on Thursday.
Eman Ahmed had reached 1,100 pounds before she was flown to the hospital for surgery. In order for the doctors to operate, she was put on a special liquid diet prior to the procedure.
Doctors at the hospital said they reduced the size of her stomach during the procedure and will continue her treatment toward a healthier weight in Abu Dhabi.
According to the New York Post, Ahmed is 36-years-old and started to gain weight after she had a stroke when she was just 11. She currently has a condition called lymphedema which causes her body tissue to swell.
The funds for her procedure and travel were raised by the Indian community and crowd-sourcing.
