Protesters covered in gray clay, so as to resemble a horde of zombies, silently marched through the streets of Hamburg, Germany Thursday, on the eve of the city’s hosting of the G20 Summit.
According to CNN, the move was meant to demonstrate “the destructive impact of capitalism” and to spur leaders from the political apathy that plagued them. The protesters walked for roughly two hours as photographers snapped shots. The ‘zombies’ have been holding these protests in Hamburg throughout the week.
“Our campaign is a further symbol for the fact that many people do not want to put up with the destructive impact of capitalism any longer,” a statement from the group said. “What will save us in the end is not our account balance but someone who will offer their holding hand.”
The protest was meant to show the empowerment of everyday citizens at the hands of inaction from the world’s leaders.
“We cannot wait until change happens from the world’s most powerful, we have to show political and social responsibility — all of us — now!” a representative from the protest said.
