A newly published study is warning that there will be 53 trillion metric tons of plastic pollution in the world’s rivers, lakes, and oceans by 2030.

The research, published in Science, found that humanity is on track to put 53 million megatons (the equivalent 53 trillion tons) into the world’s waterways, even if severe measures are taken to reduce the plastic waste currently being produced.

The article goes on to state the following:

“Unless growth in plastic production and use is halted, a fundamental transformation of the plastic economy to a framework based on recycling is essential, where end-of-life plastic products are valued rather than becoming waste,” said University of Toronto assistant professor and study co-author Chelsea Rochman, in a statement.

  1. This is a true disaster, our natural waterways are in danger, and fish, coral reefs, turtle’s all are affected by plastic discarded carelessly. If those supporting terrorist antifa and BLM, would really love America all that funding could go too cleaning up waterways and creating a use of the waste

    • Absolutely. People out there on the water, need to bring 2 garbage bags (one for garbage and one for recycle) to put their garbage in, then take it home and throw it away. That’s how we all do it when we go camping. Fill the bags and load em up. It’s just so simple to do. Being on a boat, throw your garbage in bags and not in the wster. Tubers usually have an ice chest. Put you garbage in a bag and keep it in the ice chest.

  2. Douglas is on point .I have personally cleaned trash , most of which was plastic. We as a whole have to do our part , cost included.

  3. Just think how clean our country could be if people were paid a nice incentive $$ per pound, to collect all kinds of trash everywhere and discard and get paid at the dump!
