The massive convoy of Russian troops, estimated to stretch 40 miles long and containing about 15,000 troops, headed toward Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv, appears to have run into a bit of a problem.

Fox News reported on Tuesday: Russian combat forces north of Kyiv have not advanced since Monday and have been running out of food and gas, a senior U.S. defense official said Tuesday.

More than 80% of the pre-staged Russian combat power is now inside Ukraine, the official said.

The official added that the “stall” north of Kyiv is due in part to tough Ukrainian resistance and “fuel and sustainment problems.” The lack of advance could also be a result of Russia regrouping, rethinking or reevaluating their strategy, the official said.

The official explained that a “significant number” of the Russian troops are “very young men drafted into service” who may not have been fully trained or aware that were being sent to conduct a combat mission.

The official added that there are indications that morale is falling among some of the Russian troops.

NPR’s Greg Myre also shared the following details:

Senior US defense official: ‘No appreciable movement’ of Russian convoy headed toward Kyiv.
– The Russians are meeting resistance, and are also running low on fuel and food.
– The Russians may be taking an intentional pause.
– Heavy fighting around Kharkiv. US believes Russians are trying to surround Kharkiv.
– The Russians have now fired more than 400 missiles, a mix of short, medium and cruise missiles.
– President Zelensky still has command and control of the Ukrainian forces, and is using it.

– US military assistance has flowed into Ukraine over the past 24 hours.
– The Russians have displayed a certain ‘risk adverse behavior’ when it comes to protecting their own troops. This has resulted in ‘slow and stodgy progress.
– The Russians ‘will regroup, they will adjust, they will change tactics.’
– An estimated 500,000 Ukrainians have fled the country. 70 US citizens left Ukraine and reached Poland in the past day.

British journalist Piers Morgan tweeted Monday night, “There’s a 40-MILE convoy of Russian military vehicles heading towards Kyiv to surround the city, trap the people there, and bomb them into submission. Are we really just going to sit back and watch Putin do this? There’s a war crime unfurling in front of us. Who will stop it?”
