BREAKING: Facebook announces decision on Donald Trump’s account

Facebook parent company Meta Platforms says it will reinstate Donald Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram in coming weeks.

Despite opposition from Democrats and advocacy groups, the company said it would lift the ex-president’s suspension as he makes another run for the White House.

Trump has not been allowed to post on Facebook and Instagram since his accounts were indefinitely shut down following the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

In a blog post Wednesday afternoon, Meta announced that the suspension of Trump’s account will be lifted, but “with new guardrails to deter repeat offenses.”

In the blog post, Meta wrote:

The suspension was an extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances. The normal state of affairs is that the public should be able to hear from a former President of the United States, and a declared candidate for that office again, on our platforms. Now that the time period of the suspension has elapsed, the question is not whether we choose to reinstate Mr. Trump’s accounts, but whether there remain such extraordinary circumstances that extending the suspension beyond the original two-year period is justified.

To assess whether the serious risk to public safety that existed in January 2021 has sufficiently receded, we have evaluated the current environment according to our Crisis Policy Protocol, which included looking at the conduct of the US 2022 midterm elections, and expert assessments on the current security environment. Our determination is that the risk has sufficiently receded, and that we should therefore adhere to the two-year timeline we set out. As such, we will be reinstating Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks. However, we are doing so with new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.

Like any other Facebook or Instagram user, Mr. Trump is subject to our Community Standards. In light of his violations, he now also faces heightened penalties for repeat offenses — penalties which will apply to other public figures whose accounts are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest under our updated protocol. In the event that Mr. Trump posts further violating content, the content will be removed and he will be suspended for between one month and two years, depending on the severity of the violation.

Trump celebrated the decision in a post on his Truth Social account. He wrote:

FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since “deplatforming” your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account. Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution! THANK YOU TO TRUTH SOCIAL FOR DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB. YOUR GROWTH IS OUTSTANDING, AND FUTURE UNLIMITED!!!

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton responded, tweeting, “Breaking: @Meta to let Trump back onto @Facebook/@Instagram but he will face abusive restrictions on his speech obviously designed to help Left, Democrats and Joe Biden in the run-up to the presidential election. Biden admin involved in this censorship?”

    He has his own social media. Fakebook is losing people daily. May the trend continue.

  2. This. So they can ban him again if he is popular. It’s a way to gauge where America is: are they still with him, and how much work do they have to collude with democrats to screw him over *this* time? They can’t cry “Russian interference” if he’s not on the platform.

  3. If he’s smart at all, he would stay COMPLETELY away from both of those platforms!! Just get on there long enough to delete them both accounts!

  8. Facebook needs to be punished severely for attacking freedom of speech. Even if the statement was an opinion. Take all legal protection away from them for what is said on facebook.

  15. Trump just ignore the Facebook because they want to do the same thing they did to you. Trump you were the best President ever in history and you will win in 2024 believe us the American people USA. Also they want to frame you so stay away from Facebook

  16. I got off Facebook 3.5 years ago. It’s been so nice not seeing anything or seeing the level of ignorance out there. I’ve lost family and friends along the way because of it and my relationship with my now ex-suffered for it. He likes to brag-I don’t. He wanted me to jump on wagon when he was showcasing all the places we go-where as I just wanted to hide (as he spends money faster than he makes it but never invested in a house for his two kids). I’ve quit Facebook, the types of people in Facebook and I quit my ex. I left with my girls and ended up renting a townhouse for us while I try and make money to buy a house for us. Even if it is-a townhouse.

    Facebook and those on Facebook-really want a platform to soapbox-in my opinion. Sadly-I just don’t give a hoot what they have to say. 😀

  17. Facebook was acting as Judge and Jury in punishing the president for a crime of which he has never even been indicted.

    Not very American.

    But I’ll be glad to see him back.

  18. There was nothing “extraordinary” about it…this decision was 100% politically motivated and coerced by our corrupt FBI…PERIOD
